Endoscopic

Purpose

An endoscopic inspection is performed to identify in an air-conditioning system any visible contaminants capable of causing irritations.

Endoscopic inspection of air ducts

An endoscopic inspection is a type of visual inspection that allows examination of places otherwise unreachable. These inspections need to be carried out on air ducts, because they carry air from air conditioning units or from ventilators to a certain room. The omnipresent bacteria and contaminants can move only by means of dust and/or moisture. So it is essential to keep air ducts clean. Otherwise their sole function will be to carry bacteria to the rooms.

Performance of inspection

A hole will be drilled in the air duct to gain access to it. After the inspection the hole will be closed by means of a PVC plug and a location sticker will be affixed. Drilling will be followed by insertion of the endoscope, which can be controlled while in the air duct so as to view the entire inside thoroughly and determine whether any irregularities are observable. Irregularities may range from dust, construction waste, dead birds, insects and mushrooms. It is also possible to determine the condition of the internal insulation in the air ducts. Colour photographs will be taken for inclusion in a report.

Contamination falls into four classes:

- very light:      coating thickness between 0.0 and 0.2 mm

- light:              coating thickness between 0.2 and 1.0 mm

- moderate:      coating thickness between 1.0 and 3.0 mm

- heavy:           coating thickness of 3.0 mm or more

The report will include conclusions and recommendations for maintenance of the air ducts and the connected air conditioning units.
