Cleaning, impregnating and disinfecting air ducts

Purpose

Air ducts carry air from an outdoor compressor grille to rooms via an air conditioning unit and/or back outdoors via an exhaust unit. Over the years dust and other contaminants will gather on the air duct walls. Dust transports bacteria. This makes important to clean air ducts. The frequency of cleaning will depend on the room where the filtered air is blown in and out, e.g. a hospital operating theatre or a factory workshop.

Execution

Air ducts can be cleaned in several ways:

- manually

- with brushes

- by compressed air

- under high-pressure (to clean grease ducts)

Manual cleaning

The most effective way of cleaning air ducts is by hand. Inspection hatches have to be fitted in the air ducts and they must be easy to open by anybody who performs an inspection before or after cleaning. Before fitting the inspection hatches, the air ducts will be vacuumed using a high-performance vacuum cleaner and with cloths containing a cleaning agent.

High-pressure hot water method

This method is used to remove an accumulation of grease in kitchen exhaust systems. The surface area will be foamed with the right cleaning products to remove the contamination properly. After the acting time, the inside of the air ducts will be cleaned by means of high-pressure hot water (350 bar, 90°C).

The other methods are usable subject to prior consultation with Altena Cleaning B.V.
